About the Program
The valuation of a privately held business is a mixture of art and science. In estate planning and administration, the IRS provides guidance on when an appraisal is necessary as well as what the appraisal must contain. In a contested family or business divorce, there may be multiple angles to consider in the valuation of the business. This seminar will share background and stories by a qualified appraiser and an estate planning lawyer on the requirements for appraisals, when discounts for lack of marketability and control are appropriate, and identifying planning strategies related to appraisals of privately held businesses.
